The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center has announced a $500,000 pledge from Philip and Judith Sieg to Commitment to Distinction: The Campaign for Mount Nittany Medical Center. The gift will create the Sieg Neurophysiology Center, a multidisciplinary center designed to engage medical professionals in the study, discussion and treatment options for people in our region with diseases and disorders of the nervous system.
Members of The Foundation board of directors and its Campaign Steering Committee, the Siegs are also broadly involved in national and local service as advisors, volunteers and philanthropists. They have also supported Penn State University through the formation of endowments for programs such as the University Libraries and Athletics and faculty fellowships. As a 1957 business and administration graduate of Penn State University, Philip Sieg was named an Alumni Fellow in 1988 and a Distinguished Alumnus, Penn State’s highest honor, in 1993. Jan Ulbrecht, MD, a Penn State diabetes expert, medical director of the Mount Nittany Diabetes Foot Clinic, and endocrinologist at Centre Medical & Surgical Associates, will host an open forum of questions and answers on diabetes and pre-diabetes. During the program Dr. Ulbrecht will discuss insulin resistance and how if affects the body, diabetes risk factors and steps to preventing diabetes. Also joining the conversation from Penn State will be Lynn Parker Klees, RN, CDE, and Danielle Downs, PhD. Additional sponsors for this program include People Centre’D on Diabetes and Penn State Institute for Diabetes and Obesity.
The screening and program will be held on Monday, March 22. A limited number of pre-diabetes screenings will be provided from 5:30-6:30 pm. The program will start at 6:30 pm in the Galen and Nancy Dreibelbis Auditorium at Mount Nittany Medical Center, accessible through entrance D at the rear of the Medical Center.

The Mount Nittany Cancer Program has partnered with local dermatologists to host a free skin cancer screening. Anyone who is concerned about a suspicious skin lesion or mole is welcome to make an appointment, especially those with limited or no insurance. The screening will take about ten minutes; attendees should arrive ten minutes prior to their appointment.
Screenings are offered on Saturday, March 27; 10 am – 12 noon in the radiation oncology department at Mount Nittany Medical Center, accessible through entrance E. Appointments are required. Call 814.234.6106 to register.

People Centre'd on Diabetes and Penn State Obesity and Diabetes Institute are inviting the community to a conversation on pre-diabetes presented by Jan Ulbrecht, MD, diabetes specialist.
The evening will provide guests at the discussion the opportunity to ask questions of a leading diabetes expert. Participants will learn about what insulin resistance is and how it affects the body. Risk factors and prevention steps will be discussed in addition to other topics that participants bring to discuss.
